Silver Cicada with ancient orthoceras fossil and black onyx eyes. This guy can be worn as a brooch or a pendant --see photos.
The wings are loosely sketched onto the silver; sawn out with a jewelers saw, filed and sanded. The legs are fabricated from bits of 925 silver that is brought to an almost molten state and carefully formed before assembling the piece.

*What is orthoceras fossil?
The fossils commonly known as orthoceras are ancient mollusk that lived during the Upper Devonian period 400 million years ago. They lived inside of their shell, had tentacles they could use to grab food and used jet propulsion, squirting water to move through the ocean. The name means 'straight horn', referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The fossilized shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid.
